SUMMARY
Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is currently seeking qualified summer interns for our Anchorage and Nome offices. BSNC is committed to helping prepare tomorrow's leaders for the workforce by providing paid internships to qualified shareholders and descendants. Applicants must be current college students, high school graduates who have been accepted to college or technical school and plan to attend in the fall, or recent college graduates. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to be eligible.
Under the direction of the Shareholder Training Supervisor, and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the company, and local, state, and federal laws, this internship position performs assigned duties, consisting of administrative and clerical tasks (or other duties) in support of various programs, executive leaders, managers, and staff.
At the conclusion of the internship program, BSNC Interns will take part in an exit interview. This interview will cover topics such as job knowledge, teamwork, work habits, work quality, and work ethic. It will provide interns with the chance to reflect on their experience, offer feedback, and discuss their performance throughout the internship.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide office support functions including word processing, filing, copying, composing a variety of business documents, gathering, and compiling data, proofreading documents, and balancing and coordinating a workload for multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Receive guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.
- Participate in Intern Program activities such as training sessions, group meetings, intern projects and team building.
- Collaborate directly with supervisor(s), colleague(s) and/or other internal staff in the planning of assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems.
- Identify problems and implement or recommend solutions.
- Interact respectfully with supervisors, officials, peers, other employees, and the public.
- Learn and adapt to modern technology as it relates to office practices and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Work effectively despite interruptions and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize work as directed by supervisor.
- Use a computer/laptop, related software, transcribing equipment, and other standard office equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications - Applicants must be a BSNC original shareholder or direct lineal descendant.
- Applicants must be a current college student or high school graduate who has been accepted to college or technical school and plan to attend in the fall, or a recent college graduate.
- Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA or better.

Proof of BSNC shareholder or descendant status by submitting a family tree document and legal documents including, but not limited to, birth certificates linking the applicant to a BSNC original shareholder. Please contact BSNC's Shareholder Development department for documents. Must be sent to the address below.

If you already have these documents on file with the Beringia Settlement Trust scholarship program, you may complete a Release of Information (ROI) to allow BSNC to access such documents.

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
