Job Summary

The Environmental Resilience Institute's Academic Engagement Manager will be responsible for the operation of the McKinney Climate Fellows (MCF) program, an annual professional experience for IU students.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the MCF Program and for strategically growing and strengthening the MCF Program.
  • Plays a key role in developing and maintaining partnerships with academic units and creating other opportunities for student and faculty engagement with ERI partners, for example through co-curricular and service-learning opportunities, or faculty service fellowships.
  • Supports other aspects of ERI's research, service, and student programming and will occasionally contribute to other ERI activities, including events and conferences, storytelling and media, grants management and compliance, and development.
  • Directly supervises part-time student staff and MCF fellows and coordinates closely with other ERI staff. The Manager travels occasionally in-state, including a busy few weeks of site visits in early-mid summer.
  • Utilizes a wide variety of software programs including Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Canvas, Qualtrics, and university administrative software.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the MCF Program, including recruitment of students and host organizations, interviewing and placement of students, and training for students and hosts.
  • Responsible for strategically growing and strengthening the MCF Program, helping to define program goals and ensuring progress toward them
  • Plays a key role in developing and maintaining partnerships with academic units and creating other opportunities for student and faculty engagement with ERI partners, for example through co-curricular and service-learning opportunities, or faculty service fellowships
General Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day operational management of support staff.
  • Establishes short-term operational objectives.
  • Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.
  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff.
  • Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in business, management or related field)
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of program management or related experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
