Acupuncturist (Part-Time/PRN)

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for an Acupuncturist to join our Northern Virginia Pain Management and Anesthesia Services department. This position is a part-time PRN opportunity based out of our Falls Church Medical Center in Falls Church, Virginia. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2025.

Reporting to a Pain Management-Anesthesia Services Service Chief, the Acupuncturist will provide care to Kaiser Permanente (KP) patients by utilizing acupuncture to stimulate certain points on or near the surface of the body by the insertion of needles to prevent or modify the perception of pain or to normalize physiological functions. You will perform or prescribe the use of oriental massage, acupressure, breathing techniques, exercise or nutrition, including the incorporation of drugless substances and herbs as dietary supplements to promote health.

You can expect to:

• Administer medically necessary acupuncture, consultations, assessments, and treatments as requested by family physicians and specialists
• Provide accurate diagnoses supported by medical findings derived from standardized examinations and techniques widely accepted in the medical community
• Provide high quality care to KP patients utilizing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western diagnostic techniques, ensuring comprehensive, accurate, uniform, and reproducible examinations to cure or relieve the medical condition causing the patient's complaint
• Evaluate whether anatomical loss, functional impairment, and physical complaints are work-related
• Write detailed comprehensive medical reports describing the degree of injury consistent with Workers Compensation terminology and requirements

What is required:

• Master’s degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine is required with the following requirements:
• Minimum of 1548 hours of theory including biology, organic biochemistry, physics, psychology, anatomy and physiology, pathology, nutrition and vitamins Minimum of 400 hours of history of medicine, medical terminology
  • Minimum of 30 hours of clinical sciences such as internal medicine, pharmacology, neurology, surgery and clinical medicine including dentistry, nursing, chiropractic and homeopathy, western pharmacology and BLS
  • 128 hours; Tai Chi, Qi Gong, traditional Oriental medicine theory and diagnosis, needling techniques, and acupressure
  • 660 hours of herbology
  • 300 hours including botany
  • 30 hours of practice management and ethics
  • 800 hours of clinical training
• Post-graduate degree in acupuncture or oriental medicine preferred, i.e., Ph.D. in related fields, N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy), D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine)
• Minimum of four (4) years of practice experience with more than 15 patients a day
• Experience with Western background as a nurse, physical therapist, or other western medical position is required
• Must be board certified in acupuncture by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture
• Must be licensed to practice Acupuncture in the State of Virginia, with the ability to obtain licensure in Washington D.C. and Maryland
• Must have an active BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date
• Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
• Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
• Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting hourly rate for this position ranges from $33.92 to $42.40 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors.
