In order to ensure your application is complete, you must complete the following:The University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR), under the auspices of the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK), supports the mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries within the Colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
ULAR is seeking to hire a Animal Care Technician to work with the area Team Leader and Zone/Building Coordinator to provide daily care of laboratory animals. This includes feeding, watering, housing and sanitizing enclosures of animals as required by standard operating procedures for species. Other duties include observing and reporting health conditions and maintaining record systems and inventory of animals via electronic systems; maintaining supplies and sanitation of animal housing and procedure areas; and operating large equipment such as rack washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves.
Who Will Be Successful?
A successful technician can work autonomously as well as within a team, provide exceptional animal care service, and be flexible and adaptable performing in a variety of tasks. They are capable of multi-tasking, problem solving, time management, follow-through, organizational skills, and attention to detail. They possess strong verbal and written communication skills. They have a high degree of manual dexterity, are able to be on their feet for most of the work shift and can frequently bend and stoop.
Required Education and Experience: Per Classified Civil Service Classification specification, High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
Desired Education and Experience: Six (6) months' work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility. Current AALAS registration as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician.
The position requires successful completion of a background check and employee health physical.

We have multiple openings to fill for this position. This job opportunity is a technical-level position. The minimum starting rate is $19.00 and will depend on the candidate's qualifications. ULAR provides additional opportunities to eligible employees to earn extra income based on performance, completion of certifications, reliable attendance, and shift differential pay for weekend work. Working shared weekends and holiday hours required.
