Job Description:


The Department of Teaching, Learning & Educational Leadership at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for an assistant or associate professor with expertise in science education to begin in Fall 2025. This faculty member's primary affiliation would be within the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, a program for students seeking a master's degree and NYS initial teaching certification to teach in grades 7-12.


The Department of Teaching, Learning & Educational Leadership is part of Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). CCPA is composed of five departments: Human Development, Public Administration, Social Work, Student Affairs Administration, and Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership, as well as an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Community Research and Action, all of which prepare students for community-building professions. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, creative team of cutting-edge scholars and educators, who are committed to preparing students to be well grounded in research-informed, discipline-based, culturally responsive teaching practices, as well supporting students to understand the teaching and learning process as embedded within the social, cultural, historical, and familial assets of the communities in which they teach. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester. Courses may be at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate must have a clear research trajectory and be able to demonstrate a commitment to a high-quality research agenda that is commensurate with rank. This position also carries the additional expectations of service. Requirements:


Requirements/Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree or anticipate having doctoral degree conferred by July 1st, 2025 in science education, learning sciences, curriculum and instruction, or closely related field
  • Demonstrate strong potential for developing an independent research program in science education
  • Earned a grades 7-12 science teaching certificate and have a minimum of three years of teaching experience within this grade band

Preferred:


  • Supervision and mentorship of science education students in field experience settings
  • Strong and successful graduate and/or undergraduate teaching record
  • Expertise in science content and science pedagogical content knowledge
  • Secured external funding, or minimally, contributed to grant-funded research
  • Supplemental expertise in STEM education, educational technology and/or elementary science education
  • Leadership experience in schools and/or science education professional associations
  • Track record of productivity in a significant program of research in science education
  • Ability to contribute to the design and eventual implementation of a premier, preservice undergraduate program as a complement to our graduate level program
