Job Summary:

The Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a 9-month tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Bilingual Education with a STEM Education specialization, beginning Fall 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will:

  • Maintain a successful program of research and publication
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in both traditional and online formats
  • Actively seek external funding opportunities commensurate with rank
  • Engage in service to the Department, University, Community, and Professional Organizations
Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Bilingual Education, TESOL, and/or directly related discipline with at least 18 graduate-level credits in STEM, teacher education, methods, pedagogy, etc.
  • A defined research agenda and record of scholarly publications, commensurate with assistant rank, with a special focus on STEM-related topics.
  • Evidence of strong teaching at the higher education level.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a group of faculty, students, and school personnel from varying cultural backgrounds
  • Given that the EC-6 Bilingual Education program degree plan includes content courses taught bilingually (English/Spanish) and teacher candidates are being certified in this area, candidates will need to teach courses partially in Spanish.
  • Candidates will also have a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving multilingual learners and their families.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Teaching experience in bilingual/English as a Second Language Early Childhood (EC)-12th teacher education as well as experience with STEM teaching methods courses and topics.
  • The ideal candidate will have a grant writing track record with experience as a principal investigator or co-investigator.

The Department of Teacher and Administrator Preparation offers undergraduate teacher certification programs in elementary education, elementary bilingual and ESL education, secondary education, and special education. An expanding offering of on-campus and online certification, endorsements, and master's degree programs in areas such as literacy education; "Mind, Brain, and Education"; Instructional and Learning Design Technology; mathematics education; and science education, with additional programs in the planning stages.

Home to 1,300 students, 33 faculty members, and 22 staff members, the College of Education not only prepares education professionals to lead North Texas in a dynamic and changing environment, but also contributes to the national dialogue surrounding education in the 21st Century. The College has two departments: Teacher and Administrator Preparation, and Higher Education, Adult Learning, & Organizational Studies, with more than 540 graduates in 2022-2023.
