Job Description:
At the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems (NPERS), we administer seven different retirement plans. We are committed to upholding the law and serving our plan members with integrity. Our legal team is an essential part of that mission, providing expert guidance and representation on complex legal matters that impact our agency's operations and the stakeholders we serve. We are looking for a dedicated, experienced attorney to join our team and help us navigate the challenges of statutory enforcement, policy development, and legal representation.

You'll be a key legal advisor for our agency, providing critical insights and support on a wide range of retirement legal issues. You'll represent the agency in administrative hearings and court proceedings, draft important legal documents, and advise management on complex statutory requirements. What You'll Do:

• Serve as the agency's legal expert on a variety of complex issues, offering sound legal advice to help guide decision-making.
• Conduct thorough legal research and investigations to support the agency's objectives and enforce statutory mandates.
• Represent the agency in administrative hearings, and work with County Attorneys or the State Attorney General's Office for cases that go to court.
• Negotiate contracts, settlements, and other agreements on behalf of the agency, ensuring compliance with legal standards while achieving favorable outcomes.
• Draft, review, and revise key legal documents such as motions, pleadings, policies, and regulations.
• Collaborate with agency leadership, government officials, and external legal teams to resolve legal issues that affect the agency.

Location of position: 1526 K Street, Suite 400, Lincoln, NE 68508 (in office)

Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Attorney I: Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar

Attorney II:One year of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.

Attorney III: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.

Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of 1943, incumbents in the Attorney classification must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.

Pay Rate:

Attorney I: $24.873 - $36.666

Attorney II: $28.748 - $42.378

Attorney III: $35.190 - $52.782

Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved
