The Behavioral Health Therapist (BHT) will provide substance abuse counseling, therapy and harm reduction education for the Meharry Addiction Clinic, using evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. The BHT is responsible for the provision of these services within a clinical frame work that includes assessment, planning treatment, referral services and discharge planning. In addition to providing therapy, the BHT will also provide case management to enable patients to address basic needs and linkage to higher levels of care, when needed. The BHT is responsible for maintaining progress notes within Meharry's electronic health records system as well as the State of Tennessee's TN-WITS system, to support billing of services provided to indigent care patients. The Behavioral Health Therapist is supervised by the Clinical Supervisor and may also recieve supervision toward receipt of advanced level credentialing from a licensed individual practicing within their field of study. This position is located in Nashville, TN.

Daily Operations

  • Provide individual level substance abuse and relapse prevention counseling. Complete progress notes and treatment plan documents in Electronic Health Records
  • Convene and facilitate group-level interventions and diadactic education to clinic participants. utilizing Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and harm reduction approaches
  • Develop a collaborative approach to service delivery through the integration of activities and services across all programs and projects
  • Provide case management services to patients and linkage to outside providers when needed
  • Enter patient information and service records into the TNWITS platform for designated individuals
  • Develop new resources and relationships with outside service providers
  • Comply with all reporting requirements
  • Work with other key staff to develop and conduct quality assurance processes for client/site records
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and supervising.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills
  • Experience working with indigent marginalized populations within a framework of cultural competence
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of Harm Reduction.
  • Extensive knowledge of the core competencies of substance abuse treatment required
  • Literacy and experience with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and telephone skills.

Required Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in social work, related field, or experience as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor II (LADAC) required.
  • Three years of clinical experience preferred and will be considered in lieu of a degree.
