Staff Nurse - 40 hour Variable Day - BWH Center for Transgender Health

Excellent Care to Patients and Families • The Best Staff • In the Safest Environment

Nursing at Brigham and Women's Hospital is known for their excellent clinical practice and for keeping patients and their families at the center of all they do. We understand that great care is shaped by relationships with patients and their families. That's why we're committed to knowing our patients on a deeper level - not just as patients, but as individuals - to ensure that they, and their families, feel known and cared for.

At BWH, we proudly work together with a spirit of inquiry and a deep commitment to providing the highest quality, evidence-informed and theory-guided care in an inclusive environment. We work each day to achieve our vision - to provide excellent care to patients and families, with the best staff, in the safest environment.

Just as we have been able to reinvent health care, we have also transformed health care careers. Whether measured in terms of lives saved, awards earned, or the personal satisfaction of stretching your talents - a career with BWH is unlike any other in the health care field. Here you'll find a workplace where collaboration and teamwork are the norm, not the exception - physicians, nurses, technicians, staff and management form a close-knit bond, based on mutual respect and devotion to our patients. If you want an enormously fulfilling career, there's no better place to be.

The Center for Transgender Health at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) aspires to:

  • Deliver innovative, high-quality, specialized gender-affirming clinical care and share these practices nationally.
  • Reduce health care disparities in the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) population. This includes cultural competency and access to care across the Mass General Brigham system.
  • Train the next generation of healthcare leaders to address the critical shortage of clinicians with expertise in gender-affirming care. As a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, we are committed to expanding the field of transgender care.
  • Conduct the clinical, basic, and translational research that fills the knowledge gaps in gender-affirming care.
We are seeking to hire a nurse who has a strong interest in providing care navigation for patients seeking gender-affirming healthcare services with an emphasis on supporting those with complex needs and those seeking gender-affirming surgery.

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that align with the patient's goals, medical needs, and personal preferences.
  • Assisting with navigation of the process for seeking gender-affirming care services and accessing essential resources, including financial assistance, while collaborating with care team providers and experts within and outside of BWH/MGB when necessary.
  • Providing comprehensive information to patients and their support person(s) about expected outcomes and recovery processes, and offering emotional support and guidance throughout the journey, specific to patient care goals.
  • Maintaining adequate communication with patients, support persons, and referring providers to ensure integrated and coordinated care.
  • Tracking patient progress throughout the surgical process, including pre-operative assessments, post-operative recovery, and ongoing care. Schedule follow-up appointments and adjust care plans based on patient outcomes and evolving needs.
  • Working with clinicians and support staff to provide the most appropriate follow-up and triage for both expected and unexpected concerns, while facilitating timely and effective communication with the clinic's Licensed Independent Provider (LIP).
  • Serving as an active member of the core Center for Transgender Health team - helping to shape the program and the future of gender-affirming healthcare services at BWH/MGB.
  • Working collaboratively to provide excellent care in the safest environment.
