The Corporate Communications Intern will promote a positive corporate image through internal and external communications. Internally, the focus will be on content development that informs and educates stakeholders on various issues and activities, with significant work on BlueConnect, our Sharepoint-based employee intranet, and other internal channels. This role provides the opportunity to collaborate with different departments, internal clients and employees company wide. Responsibilities include content development and enhancing the employee experience. Externally, the intern will assist with various aspects of company public relations, including news release development and social media content. Social media content work will include strategizing approaches for specific campaigns as well as producing and implementing content. This role supports the Corporate Communications team in fostering a positive image for both employees and the public with time divided 75% internally and 25% externally.

Compensation
$26.00 hourly
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What you'll do

The corporate communications intern will be expected to:
  • Assist the Corporate Communications Coordinator and Specialist with BlueConnect updates, content and design.
  • Uploads routine items such as new employee photos, monthly celebrations, retirements, meeting minutes, Thursday Thoughts and more.
  • Assist with photography needs, including taking photos as needed for BlueConnect.
  • Support the Weekly Digest and Digital Download.
  • Create and distribute flyers and content for elevator signage and bulletin boards.
  • Write engaging articles to keep employees informed of projects, culture, events and happenings across the company.
  • Assist the Digital and Social Media Strategist with social media content development and implementation. Review analytics and KPIs for posts to determine approaches for new content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need
  • Currently enrolled in a four-year university as an undergraduate or graduate student with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Undergraduate students should be in their junior or senior year.
  • The area of study must be related to communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Strong PC skills, including Windows operating system, e-mail, internet browsing and research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentially of sensitive data.
