Cost & Financial Analyst

Reporting to the Controller, of the NxEdge division of Enpro Industries, Inc., the Cost and Finance Analyst will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations on engineered job order standard costing, manufacturing accounting, and financial planning and analysis to enable operational improvements and profitable growth. The analyst will be a key partner providing financial expertise, recommendations, and solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Periodic Financial Analysis and Operations Support

  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
  • Reconcile inventory monthly including E&O calculations, aged WIP reserve, shrink reserve, and other inventory reserves as required. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement
  • Analyze monthly gross margins, inventory, and other key metrics (DSI, DPO) and provide reporting to finance and operations management on a periodic basis
  • Analyze and report on manufacturing variances monthly, including root cause and corrective action
  • Issue, audit, and review monthly product line gross margin statements
  • Support operational leaders on daily operational matters
  • Special projects as required
Month-end and quarter-end close process

  • Participate in month-end, quarter end, and year-end closing activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and reserve analyses
  • Prepare and review product line P&Ls
  • Explain the variances for the month to the Operations Managers
  • Review Excess and Obsolete inventory monthly with the Operations Managers

Inventory

  • Coordinate and lead annual physical inventory counts and periodic cycle counts
  • Implement and coordinate cycle counting program, including annual ABC stratification, validation and investigation of variances, resolution of issues, and reporting of metrics
  • Monitor / lead root cause - corrective action for cycle count variances

  • Work with operations and product line managers to dispose of obsolete inventory and aged shop orders

Cost Rolls

  • Coordinate, run, and review for accuracy the annual standard cost roll
  • Review bills of materials, routings, and standard costs for inaccuracies and make recommendations for improvements
  • Calculate labor and overhead rates and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
  • Collaborate with IT to update labor and machine overhead rates

Other

  • Support preparation of monthly forecasts and annual operating plan
  • Participate and support the internal and external audits
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for Inventory/Fixed Asset Accounts.
  • Maintain accuracy of Epicor ERP cost accounting system
  • Work closely with Operations and Engineers to improve costing and cost controls
  • Create and review the controls needed for Epicor - data accumulation and reporting systems (work closely with ITbusiness analysts to ensure accuracy of system set-ups)
  • Act as subject Matter Expert (SME) for NxEdge cost accounting

SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in General Accounting with preference to experience in Cost Accounting, financial analysis, or similar role
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data
  • Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves
  • Understanding of MRP / ERP job order standard cost system flows
  • Strong organizational and communicational skills
  • Detail oriented- Interpersonal skills (contact with Supply Chain/Operations periodically during the month)
  • Knowledge of Epicor or ERP experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
