The Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Lecturer beginning Fall 2025. Located on the North Side of Chicago on Loyola's Lake Shore Campus, the Department has 12 full-time faculty serving more than 400 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students in its Master's Program. The Department also contributes to Loyola's interdisciplinary programs in Psychology of Crime and Justice, Sociolegal Studies, Computer Crime and Forensics, and Forensic Science. Department faculty have a wide range of research interests and are extensively published and involved with local criminal justice agencies, conducting applied and theoretical research locally and nationally. We welcome candidates with strong teaching profiles in areas highlighting the intersection between social justice-related issues and the criminal justice system. Candidates with experience teaching social science research methods, criminological theory, and social justice-orientated electives are encouraged to apply.

This position involves teaching a variety of criminal justice and criminology topics at the undergraduate level, includingIntroduction to the Criminal Justice System, Research Methods, and Criminological Theory. We also encourage full-time faculty to teach electives within their area(s) of study. The successful candidate will engage in professional development activities as well as service at the department level or above.

The candidate will have a PhD in criminology, criminal justice, or a related field (i.e., sociology, political science, psychology, etc.) at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must demonstrate clear potential for excellence in teaching and student mentorship. The candidate must be willing to support the mission of Loyola University Chicago and the goals of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
