The department of Medicine, division of Pulmonary Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Department Administrator to work on the UHealth campus. The Department Administrator, Clinical performs administrative work in conjunction with other department administrators to provide leadership to a specific functional area in the organization.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops policies and procedures for department operations and ensures compliance.
- Develops and maintains systems for managing and reporting the department's activities.
- Maintains close liaison and positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and all other employees interfacing within the department.
- Provides leadership in developing business strategies and tactics to support the goals of the department and overall Health System strategic plans for market growth and development.
- Guides managers in developing skills and implementing performance management practices.
- Supports professional development of the workforce. Monitors staff and physician satisfaction.
- Provides administrative oversight to the division's practices, supporting the employment of the quality improvement process in improving operations. Directs the planning and strategic formation of clinical program goals. Analyzes and reviews financial and productivity reports.
- Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions:
- Assist with tracking and calculating physician productivity and cFTE on a monthly basis. Review wRVU targets and opportunities for staying on target.
- Develop budgets for our inpatient Pulmonary and Critical Care units. Analyze budget variances to provide justification to leadership.
- In conjunction with Practice Manager, manage clinical operations and staff to provide exceptional service to patients and physicians.
- Build and manage inpatient schedules for our 18 service lines. Ensure faculty are aware of contractual obligation and that these measurements are met.
- Post positions, interview, and hire staff members for respective areas, as necessary.
- Guide managers in developing skills in and implementation of performance management practices.
- Maintains close liaison and positive working relationships with faculty, staff and all other employees interfacing with the Division including Medical School, University, Business Office, Sponsored Programs, Purchasing, Physical Plant and Controllers offices.
- Analyze practice operations and needs to determine potential enhancements or improvements to operational procedures and develop and/or recommend supporting patient accounting policies and procedures.
- Supports clinical, research, and administrative initiatives as needed.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

- Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
