The Development Officer, Annual Leadership Gifts is a key member of a dynamic team focused on supporting Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Health Foundation's fundraising initiatives in a fast-paced environment. An energetic team player with a flexible work style; s/he will have a sincere interest in philanthropy and advancing the mission of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Health Foundation. This position reports to the VP, Philanthropy/Director of Development.

The Development Officer will manage the Annual Giving programs with an annual revenue goal of $400,000. Programs include Leadership Annual Giving, Employee Campaign Committee, direct mail and email solicitations. S/he manages stewardship activities in support of Foundation donors/prospects, including custom acknowledgements, proposal concepts, appeals, and planning, prepping for and participating in donor meetings and stewardship events with Foundation gift officers, Hospital leadership, and donors/prospects.

S/he manages donor activities, including volunteer leadership groups in a forward moving environment. This includes building relationships with Leadership Annual donors of $1,000+. The Officer will collaborate with other members of the department as needed; and will work with the rest of the fundraising staff in growing fundraising revenues aligned with the Hospital's and Foundation's Strategic Long Range Plan.

Essential Functions:
1. Manages the Annual Giving Program to achieve annual giving goal of $400,000

a) Develops and manages strategy for direct marketing and e-appeals
b) Manages the Grateful Patient Program, including quarterly mailings to current patients
c) Manages the employee giving campaign
d) Manages the Leadership Annual Giving Program (Visionary Circle) of $1,000 + donors by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding society members.

2. Creates and implement strategies to grow annual giving revenues

a) Works with gift officers in developing strategies to ensure growth of the major gift pipeline, "moving" donors from Annual Giving to Major Giving.
b) Develops a thank you calling program, making calls and ensuring that every donor of $100+ receives a thank you call within a week of a gift being made. Manages the Board thank you note card program.
c) Creates and maintains regular strategic results reporting for annual giving, analyzing results and adjusting strategies accordingly.
d) Maintains annual donor information utilizing Raiser's Edge/CRM, ensuring that data entry is timely and accurate. Produces reports as necessary working in close collaboration with the Foundation team.
e) Manage a portfolio of 150-200 leadership annual giving donors and prospects with the goal of deepening their level of interest and engagement with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and soliciting new and increased levels of support.
f) Achieves 8-12 prospect visits per month.

Stewardship:
• Establishes and maintains best practices in stewarding donors, working with gift officers to implement programs.
• Creates and reviews donor correspondence and other written materials, interprets information necessary to draft responses as needed.
• Manages the acknowledgement/stewardship process, working with the Foundation staff to ensure the acknowledgment of donors is timely and accurate, and customized where appropriate.
• Manages the Visionary Circle, working closely with the gift officers to maximize donor stewardship and engagement.
• Develops Giving Society benefits to steward existing donors, enhance the donor experience and encourage donors to upgrade.
• Builds relationships with $1,000+ donors, cultivating and stewarding to move them toward major gifts.
• Participates in cultivation and stewardship events.
• Participates in meetings with prospects, donors, volunteers and hospital staff, working with staff to ensure scheduling participants, securing meeting location, set up and break down, ordering food, creating handouts, preparing biographies, briefings and agendas for meetings.
• Manages the grateful patient amenities program, ensures VIP treatment as appropriate to steward high potential patient donors, and tracks effectiveness of the program, developing follow-up protocol for grateful patients.
• In person, by phone, and through written correspondence, uses sensitivity, good judgment and overall standards of excellence in communicating with donors, physicians, hospital leadership, and others connected to the hospital.

Qualifications
Education/Degree Required
Bachelor's degree

Experience Required
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, ideally in a fast-paced development office.
• Exposure to high level fundraising, stewardship and cultivation events preferred.
• Experience with Raiser's Edge or CRM.

Skills Required (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

• Displays a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
• Track record of successful solicitation and demonstrated ability to develop strategies for individual prospects; innovative mastery of gift management and best practices covering individual relationship development and database management.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong proofreading ability
• Highly developed interpersonal skills, working with diverse populations.
• Superb organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to multitask
• Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
• Ability to anticipate challenges and develop and implement strategies for addressing them.
• Computer proficiency required, using the full suite of Microsoft office applications and the internet and social media
• Ability to travel to meet donors & prospects
• Able to maintain variable work schedule to meet department needs. (occasional evenings, weekends).
• Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion; Familiarity with HIPAA a plus

Preferred
• Proficiency in Raiser's Edge or other constituent relationship management database.
• Understanding of fundraising programs and the principles and practices of a development operation
