Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC), The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients through teaching, research and patient care. The James is committed to providing the community/region it serves with high quality services in cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation as one of the nation's 10 free standing "cancer-only" hospitals, which is one of the largest PPS-exempt hospitals in the USA.


The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institution, and Critical Care Tower, including Critical Care Units and an expanded Emergency Department, is a transformational facility that fosters collaboration and integration of research and clinical cancer care. This 21-level hospital helps revolutionize the way cancer prevention and care are provided in this nation with world-class oncologists and cancer researchers working side-by-side to unlock the mysteries of cancer's causes and, using those discoveries, move from treating cancer to preventing it from ever occurring. Program activities offered in the James hospital include: 276 acute care beds, 72 critical care beds, 152 outpatient exam rooms, 40 infusion stations, 16 clinical trial stations, 12 Apheresis beds, and expanded Emergency Department by 46 rooms with 16 rooms dedicated to oncology patients.


The James currently encompasses more than 14,880 annual hospital admissions, over 409,000 annual outpatient and clinic patient visits, and over 11,500 surgeries per year. The OSUWMC Emergency Department patient visits are over 68,000 per year. The Environmental Services' Director supports The James' mission and values by coordinating and providing comprehensive environmental services. Responsibilities include actively promoting an Intensive Caring image in support of an absolute customer satisfaction.


The patients served by the James hospital find themselves at the intersection of research, education, and customized care. Research and education spaces are located on every floor, enhancing the bench-to-beside approach to patient care and giving patients early access to new treatments and tools.


Position Summary
The Environmental Services Director provides leadership and is the expert in environmental services provided in the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institution and Critical Care Tower, and including the Emergency Department and multiple James ambulatory sites to include the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center, the James Outpatient Care at West Campus, Martha Morehouse Tower. In addition, the Director will provide EVS services for multiple OSUWMC facilities to include Ear & Eye Institute, Central Sterile Supply, Outpatient Care Dublin and Outpatient Care New Albany, among others. The Director will collaborate with the Environmental Services' leadership for the OSU Wexner Medical Center and adjacent medical buildings. The Director establishes programs and develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of all areas within the hospital.


The Director continuously assesses and improves all areas' performance, maintains appropriate quality control programs, and provides for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of staff in the department. This position will be responsible for developing and management of policies, planning, personnel, budgets, projects, designs and work that takes place to promote a cost effective, safe, clean, attractive, and comfortable environment. The Director recommends sufficient space and other resources required by the department and participate in the selection of outside services as needed. The Director ensures compliance with appropriate patient care and business practice areas, and equipment operations twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. 10 years of relevant experience required. 15 or more years of relevant experience preferred. Considerable knowledge of customer service and team building required; Knowledge of regulatory standards; Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; and excellent organizational skills.
