Position Summary

Lead and provide technical expertise and mentorship for the operational excellence and technical services group. This group supports the design, execution, and implementation of operational improvement initiatives and technical evaluations, investigations, and problem solving.

Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee a technical team dedicated to process support, review, and improvements in Poultry, Bacterin, and Viral antigen manufacturing, as well as support lyophilization yield enhancements, formulation optimization, biological assay variability reduction, and Operational Excellence manufacturing improvements.
  • Accountable for process changes implementation and supporting investigations in manufacturing
  • Develop core competencies within the site to meet the dynamic business needs of Charles City, as well as ensure the team has the tools, resources, and labs necessary to achieve the target results.
  • Provide leadership in effective communications and training/development of department staff consistent with Zoetis Core beliefs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to ensure daily technical support needs are addressed.
  • Collaborate with all site departments to ensure high standards of process and operational performance.
  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and manage and prioritize the Continuous Improvement Project list for the site.
  • Champion the Strategic Planning process for the site. Oversee site project prioritization and management.
  • Maintain a high level of contemporary knowledge in the technical disciplines appropriate to vaccine development, manufacture, and testing and Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Refine and manage site project management program.
  • Mentor project managers within site on project management tools.

Education and Experience
  • BA/BS with >14 years relevant experience OR MBA/MS with >12 years relevant experience

Technical Skills Requirements
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification. Master Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Laboratory and/or manufacturing experience in biological testing and/or manufacturing is required. A strong working knowledge of vaccine production methods, experimental design, and experience in GLP or GMP is required. Strong knowledge of USDA and EU regulatory systems is required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Managing groups of people, departments, projects, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and mentor colleagues with solid line and dotted line reporting structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and achieve results across functional boundaries, without direct authority, and with minimal oversight.
  • Strong technical/analytical skills and possess a high degree of personal motivation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to product quality, continuous improvement and working knowledge of Operational Excellence principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and motivate colleagues to meet defined objectives.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.

Physical Position Requirements
  • Able to become qualified to enter clean room environments.
  • Physical Demands Include: Sitting, Writing, Typing, Talking, Hearing, Seeing, Lifting.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in environments with extreme temperature (hot /cold) & humidity, with limited lighting and in crowded spaces. The noise of these work environments are typical office noises.
