Position Overview:
This position leads Compeer's Rural Capital Portal initiative, providing strategic direction and aligning programs to expand the impact of delivering capital to rural communities. Collaborates with internal and external partners to maximize existing authorities and develop new strategic partnerships, addressing rural community needs even when direct financing by Compeer is not possible. Additionally, involves working with regulatory bodies and the Legislative Affairs team to broaden the Farm Credit System's ability to support rural financing and seek new permanent authorities in future legislation. The position also coordinates closely with Corporate Giving to ensure a unified plan for supporting rural America through philanthropy, debt capital, and venture capital.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads the strategic development and execution of Compeer's Rural Capital Portal initiative. Collaborates with existing Compeer teams to optimize current capabilities and authorities, and forges strategic partnerships to enhance Compeer's impact in delivering capital to rural communities. Drives efforts to influence policymakers to expand the Farm Credit System's authority in support of rural development.
  • Participates in the development of the Rural Vitality team's strategic direction and goals, and translates the vision and strategies into practical, effective, and efficient operating plans in order to achieve the organization's short-term and long-term objectives for Rural Vitality.
  • Partners with Rural Vitality and other Compeer team members to build relationships with investors and clients, develop new private equity capital funds and create marketing channels for Rural Vitality financing products.
  • Designs and implements innovative products and strategies that leverage Compeer's financing and investment strengths to create unique, competitive offerings tailored to the rural marketplaces targeted by the Rural Vitality team.
  • Develops go-to-market strategies and generates new business by identifying potential clients and referral partners, leveraging Compeer's networks and reputation in rural America.
  • Develops and maintains a significant professional presence throughout the industries served by the Rural Vitality business unit, including attendance of conferences, tradeshows, and industry events supporting those industries, with the objective of deepening relationships and developing financing opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial lending/investments, credit analysis, or similar roles.
  • Advance understanding of rural community dynamics, governmental financing programs focused on rural America, and challenges and opportunities faced by rural communities.
  • Advanced understanding of financial markets, complex syndicated and participated financial transactions, business evaluation, legal review, and strategic selling skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial, lending and securities industries.
  • Collaborative team-player who can succeed in an environment where success is determined as a team.
  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate and develop interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization as well as outside of the organization.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for effectively communicating and collaborating with regulatory bodies.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
  • Demonstrated decision making abilities, and proven credibility in influencing and working effectively with business unit management, senior officers, executives, elected officials, and rural community leaders.
  • Strong capability in business development within the relevant industry, including the ability to leverage an existing professional network to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in organizational management, negotiation, credit, presentation, marketing, and sales skills.
  • Ability to remain objective in balancing business needs and risk.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
  • Valid driver's license.
