The Department of Community and Behavioral Health in the College of Public Health is seeking a Graduate Program Coordinator to provide developmental and administrative coordination for student program activities within the department; advise students and faculty on matters associated with the programs; coordinate and administer student affairs relating to the recruitment, admission, processing, curriculum, student degree progression, program planning, placement and alumni communication and engagement; and provide information and reports for training grants, educational support funding, and university and external reporting on programs.

Recruit, Admit and Retain Prospective and Current Students for the Department of Community and Behavioral Health

Plan and implement student recruitment activities and orientation. Design and manage the recruitment and enrollment processes for the department, including creating and updating departmental recruitment materials, webpages, and program handbooks. Consult with and explain admission policies and procedures to community colleges, and other educational institutions and external organizations. Advise prospective students regarding admission; evaluate transcripts; make admission decisions regarding routine exceptions and petitions. Assist with determining degree progression, career planning and retention. Analyze admissions data; develop; maintain and monitor reports to support program goals. Provide support to faculty in relation to specific advising or broader student concerns. Consider funding needs of students and suggest potential mechanisms for funding to faculty and students including training and internship and job opportunities. Advise and counsel a diverse current student population with academic, financial, and personal issues and refer students to appropriate personnel and campus departments as necessary. Assist students in course selection, administrative and academic regulations, admissions procedures, curriculum selection, credits and credit transfers, registration procedures, financial aid, benefits, and limitations, unique CBH or CPH guidelines, study skills and career development plans for academic and personal career success. Foster an environment of belonging and support for all students.

Enrollment Management

Participate in the management of course enrollments; collect admissions data from multiple sources; assist in the development and maintenance of reports. Organize and facilitate student orientation, graduate receptions, and focus area networking events, with intent to actively engage the diversity of our student body. Support student decision making around elective courses, and course plans. Maintain records of all applications for admission and present these to the departmental faculty for timely review. Schedule prospective student interviews. Maintain regular communication with student applicants regarding status of their applications. Engage admitted students prior to the starting semester to build community and connection to the department even prior to beginning their degree. Facilitate PhD Preliminary and Comprehensive Exam processes. Prepare and submit course offerings and schedule final exam classrooms. Develop, proof, and submit University Course Catalog of department degree programs.

Academic Standards and Curricular Policies

Develop or maintain accurate program materials. Update and incorporate changes into internal and external documents. Assist in identifying recurring problems that may require further study. Assist in identifying recurring problems that may require further study/solutions. Design, prepare and maintain a handbook for students that outlines rules, procedures, and requirements of the department. Prepare and maintain appropriate reports and surveys for the Department strategic plan monitoring and for the graduate programs. Engage students actively in feedback about academic programs and culture of department, and in decisions about curricular changes. Coordinate curricular issues and changes within departments and colleges. Work with the leadership to maintain the graduate student handbook and ensure that posted curriculum and competency statements are accurate. Participate in collegiate meetings to be aware and to influence policy and procedural changes.

Academic Program Management (Planning, Designing, Integrating, and Evaluating Curriculum)

Assist with the development of academic program materials to meet departmental goals. Assist in identifying benchmarks and anticipating barriers. Assist with the development of academic program materials to support departmental programs. Assist in identifying benchmarks and anticipating barriers. Serve as a resource and advisor to faculty regarding the structure and implementation of academic programs for students. Design data collection systems, collect data, and prepare reports on student admission, enrollment, achievement, academic performance, graduation, and post-graduation as needed by the college, university, and accrediting bodies. Coordinate and monitor student progress toward graduation. Coordinate and create departmental newsletter. Engage alumni in programmatic offerings as guest lecturers, or presenters; and continued academic outcome/program evaluation. Support the development and writing of training grants proposals, renewals, and other sources of funding for education programs, and the collection of related/required data.

Budget Oversight and Management

Assist in the development, management, and oversight of various student funding opportunities.

Requires:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with administrative or academic program policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office (ex. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Zoom, and social media).
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, multitask, be detail oriented, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as attention to detail.
Desires:
  • Ability to travel to recruitment events and educational conferences.
  • Experience with student interaction or direct student contact at high school, community college, or college level.
  • Previous experience in program and/or project management.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • A degree in public health, higher education, student affairs, or related area.
Position and Application Details:

This position is expected to be on-campus most of the time. Limited remote work is negotiable. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa
and comply with the remote work program and related policies
