Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated HR Specialist/Generalist Assistant to join our team. Under general supervision, this position provides vital support in various human resources (HR) functions, including talent acquisition, benefits, payroll, classification and compensation, and organizational development. This role is essential in assisting managers, supervisors, and teammates while supporting prospective employees.

During your first year here at NPERS, you'll receive 13 paid holidays per year, you can earn 12 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave, have your retirement contributions matched at 156%, and 79% of your medical insurance premiums are paid by your employer. Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Examples of Work

  • Support HR program administration, including employment records, training, classification, compensation, payroll, leave, and talent management.
  • Assist in onboarding, orientation, and training, explaining HR policies, benefits, and labor contracts.
  • Respond to employment-related inquiries, referring complex issues to higher-level professionals.
  • Schedule interviews and assess applicant qualifications based on job requirements.
  • Review and process personnel actions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Maintain personnel records, secure data, and generate reports on HR metrics.
  • Conduct or assist with research, surveys, and reporting on HR issues.
  • Ensure compliance with state HR policies, labor agreements, and administrative procedures.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or three years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of personnel practices, employment laws, and confidentiality standards.
  • Proficiency in HR-related systems, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
  • Strong communication skills to explain HR processes and guidelines effectively.
  • Ability to manage data, analyze information, and recommend process improvements.
  • Skilled in operating office equipment and maintaining organized records.
