Job Summary:
Junior Instructors will be introduced to working opportunities within the Snow Sports industry. This position introduces Junior Instructors to skills needed to work and connect with leaders in the Mountain Sports School. Working as a Junior Instructor will provide an educational pathway while earning national recognition as a Junior Instructor. This is a seasonal position and Junior Instructors must be 14 year of age or older.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists the Ski/Snowboard Instructor in teaching skiing and/or snowboarding to guests and school groups.
  • Is knowledgeable in the principles and application of teaching snow sports, demonstrates and communicates that knowledge clearly and positively.
  • Assists in organizing students into groups, getting kids ready for their lesson time, assisting student with riding various lifts.
  • Directs guests to appropriate departments for ticket purchasing and equipment fitting.
  • Maintains excellent customer service while interacting with guests, coaches and athletes.
  • Assists in the daily set-up and take down of the Mountain Sports School.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
  • Ability to ski/snowboard at a proficient level.
  • Ability to be enthusiastic and outgoing, accepting all assignment with equal enthusiasm.
  • Strong communication and guest service skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of guests and coworkers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by guests and coworkers in English.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Junior Instructors are between 14-16 years of age and must be 14 years old by September 1, 2024.
  • Ability to work outside in all winter weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must have sight, speech and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions.
  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
  • Ability to commit to Junior Instructor training days in mid-November and early December.
  • Ability to work assigned weekends and holidays.

EQUIPMENT USED
  • Skis and/or Snowboard
  • Proper outdoor attire for skiing or riding
  • Helmet

The goal of this program is to introduce individuals to working opportunities within the Snow Sports industry. This program will introduce you to the skills you need to work and connect you with leaders in the Mountain Sports Academy. You'll gain an educational pathway to becoming an instructor and working with guests in the mountain environment.

Junior Instructors need to be between the ages of 14 and 16 by September 1, 2024.

Required trainings for this position are mandatory and will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 16th (10am - 2pm)
  • Saturday, November 23rd (10am - 2pm)
  • Saturday, December 7th (10am - 2pm)
