Manager, Clinical Operations

Iowa Health Care has a new opportunity for a Manager of Clinical Operations to serve as a trusted advisor and partner to the Chief Operating Officer. The position expands the office's capacity to ensure operational efficiency across the entire patient care platform, manages expectations through effective communication, and cultivates internal partnerships at all levels of the organization. The role is a member of the Office of the COO's extended administrative leadership team.

Position Responsibilities:

Planning and Goal Management

  • Collaborate with the COO on assigned projects to enhance the Office of the COO's efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage outcomes of initiatives to improve operational efficiency within departmental business functions and clinical operational efficiencies.
  • Assist in defining operational strategy formulation and execution.
  • Participates in strategic planning processes aligned with operation goals.
  • Develop and implement action plans to achieve strategic objectives and key performance targets.
  • Lead planning and programming of key COO meetings; draft presentations and provide talking points.
  • Lead and participate in special projects of the COO office.
Communication
  • Serve as liaison between staff, executives, senior leaders, and COO regarding operational proposals, projects, and planning.
  • Optimize information flow to the COO by ensuring metrics and reporting systems are in place and designing and implementing new data collection, analytics, and communication workflows where needed.
  • Build and develop relationships at all levels within the organization to increase efficiency and effectiveness in responding to existing operations.
  • Represent the COO's office in meetings and serve as a proxy for the COO as appropriate.

Financial Management
  • Utilize financial and operational metrics to inform decision-making and drive performance improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare or assist in developing annual budgets and providing financial projections and recommendations.
  • Utilize clinical informatics data to engage with hospital clinical care providers to support operational improvements to patient care delivery.

Patient Care/Service Delivery
  • Serve as an advisor to the COO in planning clinical and fiscal operations.
  • Identify patient care needs and forecast service trends to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with medical and operational teams to ensure patient delivery meets institutional standards.
  • Develop and monitor plans to enhance patient satisfaction across clinical sites.

Required
  • Master's degree in Health Administration, Public Health or Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of related business or operational management experience, including experience interacting with executive leadership.
  • Experience with data analysis, budget management, and/or cost analysis.
  • Ability to collaboratively work on large, complex projects and in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with computer applications and software programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage time.
Desired
  • Experience using and extracting data and reports from an electronic medical record (EMR) system, such as EPIC
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of systems, policies, and procedures at University of Iowa and University of Iowa Health Care.
