JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced Manager of Project Management responsible for building high-performing teams, fostering strong business partnerships and delivering projects on time, within budget, and of the highest level of quality. This manager will establish and maintain program management functions and toolsets that align with our company's goals and objectives. Key responsibilities include ensuring the seamless delivery of projects and programs, optimizing processes, and consistently exceeding client expectations.
This position requires a visionary leader with a proven track record of 15+ years in project management, who can drive the development and implementation of innovative, adaptable solutions to meet business needs and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Project Management department, aligning with the company's overall business objectives.
- Strategic planning will include the roadmap schedule, from long term planning (more than a year) to quarterly and project level execution.
- Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, business team collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department in collaboration with senior management including process strategy at the executive level.
- Lead the development of project standards, templates, governance structures, and training programs that will elevate the entire organization's project management maturity and set a new bar for excellence.
- Act as a key liaison for senior client leadership, maintaining open communication channels to address concerns, discuss progress, and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Continuously assess project management processes and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure Seamless Communication: Implement a robust communication strategy to keep all stakeholders informed of project updates, risks, and milestones
- Project Portfolio Management:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the project portfolio, including prioritization, resource allocation, and alignment with business objectives.
- Install and lead project intake, prioritization and backlog management processes ensuring enterprise-wide alignment.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, functional department leaders, and project sponsors.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and success criteria, ensuring alignment with business needs and priorities.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for escalations and resolution of project-related issues and conflicts.
- Implement a robust communication strategy to keep all stakeholders informed of project updates, risks, and milestones
- Scope & Planning:
- Oversee project scoping and planning, ensuring clarity of objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
- Actively support project managers in developing robust project plans and navigating challenges.
- Control project design and planning activities associated with assigned projects. Collaborate in defining, sourcing & managing necessary project resources and assessing and managing timelines.
- Develop and manage vendor contracts / agreements associated with projects.
- Performance Monitoring:
- Define and implement KPIs and metrics to monitor project performance, ensuring projects remain on track and within budget.
- Create regular reporting mechanisms to provide visibility into project status, risks, and issues to senior leadership.
- Team Development:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of project managers and project management professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Provide guidance and support for professional development, training, and certification opportunities for project management staff.
- Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment that promotes creativity, innovation, and excellence while driving for results.
- Delivery:
- Lead large, strategic projects as required, such as the ERP deployment, as aligned with the business strategy.
- Perform post-implementation program/project reviews to determine benefits realization and achievement of overall objectives in line with IT and overall corporate strategy.
- Effectively control and manage issues, risks, dependencies, and changes in scope associated with large, strategic projects.
- Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements - verbally or through written documentation - to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- 10-15 years' experience in Portfolio/Program/Project Management
- 10+ years in a leadership role in a technical environment
- Proven successful record of setting up and leading PMOs with the ability to right-size practices for the organization's maturity level and the ability to provide strategic consulting services to clients.
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving standardization
- Full understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and best practices.
- Strategic business focus and understanding; customer-focused perspective.
- High level understanding of technical and integration concepts as related to the industry and products/services of the company.
- Ability to build and deliver executive-level summary reports and presentations.
- Demonstrated experience as a leader of leaders with the ability to develop technical talent (both managers and individual contributors).
- Demonstrated experience building organizational relationships, partnering with and influencing executive leadership while commanding the respect of the individuals you work with across the organization.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the ability to learn new software programs such as Power BI.'
- Strong proficiency with industry standard project management software.

- Demonstrated leadership with proven ability of bringing multiple complex projects to successful completion is required.
- Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams.
- Experience defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics.
- Experience building processes, project planning, and schedules.
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements.
- Experience with the organization's core software applications including AS400/Prism, M3, Transportation software, Optiva, Sterling Integrator, and others.
- Able to exercise independent judgment and act on it.
- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
