The Norfolk Regional Center is Phase I of the Nebraska Sex Offender Treatment Program. The Sex Offender Treatment Program is for patients who have completed their criminal sentence but have been deemed at high risk to sexually re-offend if outside an inpatient treatment facility. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will assist our multi-disciplinary teams in treatment plans and perform a range of functions to create a therapeutic environment for the care and treatment of sex offenders with mental illnesses and personality disorders committed directly from the prison to the Nebraska Sex Offender program. The Mental Health Specialist will provide direct care services of both a safety and treatment nature, including but not limited to the day-to-day supervision of patient activities, therapeutic interactions with the patients, facilitation of psycho-educational group activities, documentation of patient behaviors and the escort and supervision of patients throughout the facility for patient personal development.
As a Mental Health Specialist, you will play a vital role in the care of patients at Norfolk Regional Center to include:
- Working directly with the adult patient population
- Assist patients with activities of daily living.
- Ensuring the safety of the individuals served
- Providing a safe and therapeutic living environment
- Encouraging participation in treatment
- Modeling appropriate interactions
- Documentation of efforts and/or areas of concern
- May be required to transport patients using a state car
Requirements / Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: Be at least 19 years of age to work with adult client populations.
Preferred Qualifications: One or more years of education or experience in human services or stable experience in customer service or military service, where the candidate is working with others, directly or indirectly. Experience with behavioral interventional programs, crisis intervention and de-escalation. Working with a diverse population.

Hiring Rate:$26.520/per hour plus shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
2nd and 3rd shifts weekdays $1.00
1st shift weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays $1.25
2nd shift weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays $1.50
3rd shift weekends (Friday and Saturday) and holidays $1.50
ShiftFull Time and PT Positions Available. Full Time Positions require rotation between Day shift (6:45AM-3:15PM) and Second shift (2:45PM-11:15PM) and/or 11PM-7 AM. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Days off will vary. On-Call positions available: Requires working 32 hours (minimum) per month, 16 hours have to be weekend hours (11:00 pm Fridays - 7:00am Mondays).
Knowledge of: security measures required in the care of criminal and dangerously insane patients; techniques of caring for physically and/or mentally ill patients; human behavior and performance; principles and methods for instructing individuals and groups.
Skill in: listening and understanding; communicating effectively as appropriate for the intended audience; teaching others how to do something.
Ability to: give leadership to lesser-experienced workers; interpret and follow all facility/ward instructions; prepare reports; carry out nursing procedures as prescribed; make decisions and act quickly in situations involving patient care or safety; communicate with co-workers, management and patients; lift, push, pull or bend to assist clients in meeting their needs and maintaining safety within the facility/ward.
