Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.

Position Summary:

The Palliative and Collaborative Care (PACT) Intervention team is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to coordinate a team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers in co-creating a plan of care for older adults with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) in conjunction with the participants themselves. The project will last about 24 months.

The PACT RN is a highly qualified nurse who through education and experience possesses distinct knowledge of and skills in the care of older adults with cancer. The PACT RN will be responsible for tracking participants' progress by interviewing participants and care partners, assessing participants' functional status, reviewing participant and care partner survey results, and monitoring participants' lab values. The PACT RN coordinates activities and care planning with the interdisciplinary team and leads PACT meetings with the PI, providing continuity of care and standards during the study.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and 'approved to practice medical acts' by the Joint Subcommittee.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Knowledge of professional patient care practices and procedures, medical terminology, disease processes and body systems, pharmacology, and current clinical diagnostic procedures and treatments.

Ability to assess symptoms and diagnose patient conditions by interpreting medical and clinical information. Ability to advise patients on medication and therapeutic management of symptoms through evidence-based practice and collaboration with the medical team.

Knowledge of teaching and consulting techniques. Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help
patients, their families, and healthcare personnel strengthen their understanding of and capacity to deal with health issues.

Ability to establish and maintain effective communications with patients, their families, healthcare
personnel, and others. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, regarding the disease process and the level of care and services provided to ensure that the intended audience understands

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Two years of relevant oncology nursing experience, specifically experience working with adults with cancer is preferred.
