Part-Time Instructor of Energy Control Technology

Arkansas State University - Newport (ASUN) is seeking applications for an Energy Control Technology Instructor. This position is a part-time faculty position and will be housed on the Newport campus. The instructor reports to the Associate Dean for Applied Science and has responsibility for the coordination, oversight, and assessment of the HVACR program at Newport. The Instructor of Energy Control Technology will lead students in the field of air conditioning, refrigeration service and controls, basic wiring, energy efficiency, and public health and safety. The position will require the instructor to create a safe learning environment for a diverse group of students with different skill levels. The instructor will also see to it that the curriculum meets federal, state and local health and safety codes, and adheres to industry recognized service installation and repair procedures. Work hours will be late afternoons to early evenings on weekdays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Present classroom theory instruction

Conduct hands on lab instruction

Teach the refrigeration cycle and controls

Explain and demonstrate equipment preventive maintenance

Present theory and practical application of residential heating and cooling

Teach how to interpret wiring schematics and how to perform basic wiring task

Explain and interpret Arkansas Health Codes

Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess a HVACR Class B or A license, and proof of recent experience in air conditioning installation and repair.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A technical certificate or evidence of extensive experience and training is required.

Experience with heating and air-conditioning installation and repair, appliance repair, basic wiring, and energy proficiency required.

An associate degree in a related field is preferred.
