We are seeking a reliable and friendly Part-Time Switchboard Operator to serve as the first point of contact for all incoming calls at Arkansas State University-Newport. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a professional demeanor, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. This role plays a critical part in connecting students, faculty, staff, and the general public to the appropriate college departments and services in a friendly, efficient, and helpful manner. This position may report from any of the ASUN campus locations: Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree.

Key Responsibilities:

 Operate Switchboard: Manage incoming calls to the college, directing them to the
appropriate departments, faculty, or staff members as needed.
 Provide Information: Offer general information to callers regarding college services,
office hours, campus events, and basic inquiries about programs.
 Record Messages: Take clear and accurate messages when necessary, ensuring timely
delivery to the correct person or department.
 Handle General Inquiries: Assist with general requests from students, staff, and the
public, and provide additional support as needed for specific campus services.
 Maintain Professionalism: Represent the college in a professional and courteous
manner, adhering to established customer service standards.
 Support Campus Events: Assist in directing attendees and visitors during campus
events, meetings, or community activities hosted at the college.

Qualifications:

 Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or receptionist role is preferred
but not required. Training will be provided.
 Skills:
o Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to multi-task and manage a high volume of phone calls with accuracy and
efficiency.
o Strong attention to detail, including accurate message-taking and call routing.
o Familiarity with basic office equipment such as phones, computers, and fax
machines.
 Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods and use a multi-line phone
system.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Familiarity with the college's campus and programs.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position with flexible hours. The schedule will be determined based on the
needs of the college, with an expected commitment of up to 28 hours a week.
