The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care's nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services. The University of Iowa Health Care department of Nursing is seeking a Patient Care Technician who under direct supervision, assists the members of the nursing team in provision of multiple types of patient care in the out-patient care areas. Their work requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures used in delivering patient care.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Application, adjustment, and removal of various casts, braces, splints, etc. to patients with approval from a provider.
• Instructing patients in proper care of cast and splints, including walking casts and boots.
• EMR documentation of services performed, and charges applied.
• Maintain supplies and equipment needed for various casting procedures.
• Help coordinate patient throughput in the Orthopedic cast room(s).
• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
• Performs special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site cares.
• Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
• Turns, positions, and ambulates patients.
• Utilized ergonomic equipment and lifts to optimize patient care.
• Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
• Serves drinking water and nourishments, and records patients' intake.
• Assists patients with bedpans and urinals and records output.
• Participates in nursing care conferences; reports pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge.
• Provides for patient comfort measures through social interactions.
• Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit.
• May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse.
• Cleans areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment.
• Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units.
• Perform other duties as required.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday - Friday. 0800-1630. No holidays or weekends.
Hourly: $17.51 to commensurate
