Job Description Summary:

Parkersburg/Marietta, WV: The Regional Statewide Campus (SWC) Director coordinates and manages all aspects of the year three and year four programs under the direction of the SWC Regional Assistant Dean and Associate Dean for Predoctoral Clinical Education. The degreed individual in this position will work cooperatively with the SWC Managing Director and the other SWC Regional Directors to produce programs and materials that will be used throughout the SWC system. This position reports to the Statewide Campus Regional Assistant Dean.

This is a full-time non-classified position with full state benefits and is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime. Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and will require regular evening and weekend scheduling. Some travel including overnight travel will be required. Minimum base salary is commensurate with education and experience.

This position has been designated as Essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.

Required Licenses/Certification:

Successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree with a Master's preferred. A valid driver's license is also required for weekly regional travel.

Skills Required:

An equivalent combination of relevant and recent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with records, students, etc. as this position handles a lot of highly sensitive and confidential information;
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and challenging deadlines;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a project or office;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the State's policies, institutional guidelines, and applicable laws. Ensures that all employees are motivated and guided to contribute fully to the realization of WVSOM's mission, vision, goals, and objectives;
  • Proven skill with Microsoft Office Products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word;
  • Proven ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, physicians, hospital officials, public officials, business community, volunteers and community leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Regional Director is expected to:

  • Serve as the liaison between the SWC site and the Office of Predoctoral Clinical Education; and as a liaison between WVSOM and clinical faculty, directors of medical education, and clinical teaching sites. Keep the Office of Predoctoral Clinical Education and the SWC Regional Assistant Dean informed of students' opinions, problems and concerns. Inform the SWC Regional Assistant Dean of students' clinical/professional performance
  • Create rotation block schedules; advise, assist and counsel students regarding years 3 and 4 clinical rotations, curriculum, requirements, and the policies and procedures that govern these years. Advise and direct students regarding intern and residency application and interview processes. Collaborates with Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Clinical Education to promote student understanding of postgraduate programs. Be a student advocate.
  • Monitor students' progress and collaborate with the SWC Regional Assistant Dean regarding possible solutions for any concerns. Ensure that every SWC student meets graduation requirements within stated time periods.
  • In collaboration with the SWC Regional Dean, recruit new clinical faculty and clinical training locations. Educate clinical faculty about WVSOM and the SWC program and its mission, goals, objectives, and policies and procedures. Review evaluations of faculty and programs, and (in collaboration with the SWC Regional Assistant Dean) develop and implement an appropriate plan of action in response to any deficiencies. Coordinate reporting of CME for all clinical faculty. Coordinate honoraria and reimbursement of funds for all clinical education activities.
  • Support the SWC Regional Assistant Dean with the completion of his/her responsibilities. Provide leadership, supervision and direction to the SWC Administrative Assistant. Work cooperatively with other SWC sites and with the Department of Predoctoral Clinical Education to improve existing programs and to develop and evaluate new programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and materials that support the years three and four clinical educational experiences.
  • Educate prospective students about osteopathic medicine and WVSOM through one-on-one interviews, the coordination of regularly scheduled events, shadowing experiences, and facilitating physician mentoring.
  • Attend to other related duties as assigned by the SWC Regional Assistant Dean or by the Department of Predoctoral Clinical Education.
  • Other related duties as directed or assigned.
