Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to provide administrative and research support to the Associate Dean for Research and Advanced Studies (ADRAS). Duties and responsibilities are drawn from the current role of the Research Office in the college, as well as goals articulated in the college strategic plan.
Duties and Responsibilities


Research Support to the ADRAS

• Counsel, advise and assist the ADRAS with administrative matters based on overall knowledge of the unit, college, and university administrative structures, policies, procedures, and past precedents. Review policies and procedures, analyze situations, and advise the ADRAS in establishing, implementing, and interpreting policies and procedures within the office.

• Support scholarly activity in clinical and diagnostic units, especially discovery efforts that are aligned with areas of campus research strength.

• Facilitate and promote faculty activities that elevate the reputation of the college nationally and internationally.

• Provide assistance with faculty professional development activities - identify opportunities for grant writing workshops, and other related activities.

• Provide assistance with grant writing and compliance activities for extramural applications, including program/equipment grants, writing IACUC and IBC protocols.

• Assist in identifying new extramural funding opportunities that enhance college interdisciplinary research efforts.

• Develop promotional materials that communicate our research capabilities and distribute them to key constituencies that are positioned to disseminate this information locally and nationally.

• Enhance research collaboration with corporate entities.

• Assist with compiling and communicating a summary of college research efforts on a regular basis. This includes maintaining and updating research metrics required for accreditation purposes and assessment of college progress towards strategic plan initiatives related to research.

• Maintain, update and develop SOPs for different research activities of the ADRAS.

• Provide research support as time permits, similar to what is described for the college Research Specialist position.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Collaboration with departments/units:

◦ Work with college grant support unit to generate summaries for college extramural grant research efforts.

◦ Work with Strategic Communications and Marketing group to assist in highlighting faculty success, including major grants and publications and other significant accomplishments.

◦ Work with the college Shared Equipment Committee to maintain an inventory of research equipment, and associated instructional documentation, and oversee access to the shared equipment laboratories and maintenance and repair of equipment.

◦ Work with faculty leads in maintaining shared equipment service contracts and generate summaries of usage. Maintain and update inventory of laboratory freezer materials.

• Administrative support for committees and ADRAS unit support

◦ Provide administrative support for meetings of the Research Advisory Committee and internal research grant funding opportunities.

◦ Provide administrative support for meetings of the combined DVM/PhD program.

◦ Assist department staff in delivering research related events, such as Graduate Student Expo.

◦ Provide administrative support for the college's research day held annually in April, the oversight of activities at the 80-acre Veterinary Medicine Research Farm (located 1.5 miles SE of the college), the activities of the Biosafety officer, and research-focused conferences organized by the college. The latter activity may require travel outside the county.

• Maintain, update, and improve college research web pages.

Dean's Administrative Team Support and other duties as assigned

• Act as part of the dean's administrative team, including answering phones and directing calls to appropriate staff/units, assisting visitors, and opening/closing of office suite.

• Assist dean's administrative team with college events including summer ice cream socials, annual thanksgiving celebration and other luncheons/events, open house, and continuing education events throughout the year.

• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands
Normal office environment. Allergies to hay, straw or animal dander may cause discomfort based on the location within the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and a total of one year in education, training and/or work experience in laboratory research or research administration. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/18/2024. Salary is commensurate with experience.
