JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clinical Judgment - Collects and interprets complex patient data; makes clinical judgments based on an immediate grasp of the whole picture; recognizes patterns and trends by focusing on key elements while eliminating extraneous details. Documents and teaches others to document the plan of care and care delivered.. Responds to subtle patient and family changes; engages with each unique patient and family in a compassionate manner; tailors caring practices to the individuality of patient and family; recognizes the importance of a healing environment and; promotes; recognizes that death may be an acceptable outcome. Proficiently integrates age specific concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning. Sets patient-driven goals for education; adapts educational programs to meet the learning needs of the patient and family; integrates different teaching methods which match the learning styles of the patient and family; coordinates education with other members of the health care team.
  • Patient Advocacy - Considers patient values and incorporates in care, when differing from personal values; supports colleagues in ethical and clinical issues; moral decision-making can deviate from rules; engages the patient's family, encouraging them to speak/represent themselves; protects patient and family rights. Inquires about cultural differences and considers their impact on care accommodates personal and professional differences in the plan of care; helps patient/family understand the culture of the healthcare system.
  • Systems Thinking - Is able to recognize systems and processes within the healthcare environment that affect the patient experience; anticipates needs of patients and families as they move through the healthcare system; utilizes untapped and alternative resources as necessary. Sustains a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Enthusiastically supports leadership in efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Monitors and complies with safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Is mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and assertively communicates safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members. Effectively coordinates the delivery of respiratory care while in the role of Lead. Serve as a point of contact for the ongoing monitoring of workload, work flow and appropriate respiratory care staffing levels.
  • Clinical Inquiry - Questions appropriateness of policies and guidelines; questions current practice; seeks advice, resources, or information to improve patient care; begins to compare and contrast possible alternatives. Assists with development of competence in peers; formally, by precepting students, new employees, and informally, by sharing knowledge at the point-of-care. Demonstrate awareness of the value of research and evidence based practice in respiratory care. Utilizes the knowledge to implement researched-based practice developed by others Uses self-appraisal performance review and peer review, including annual goal setting, for assurance of competence and professional development to promote safe and ethical practice using the nursing process. Coaches and mentors others.. Facilitates learning for members of the healthcare team. Assume responsibility for own learning. Initiate activities toward meeting those needs and integrate new knowledge into practice. Actively works with respiratory care managers, supervisors, , respiratory care councils and magnet representatives to identify, share, implement and evaluate safety best practices.
  • Collaboration - Proactively contributes to the interdisciplinary team in team meetings and discussions regarding patient care and/or practice issues. Coaches others to respect the contributions of the entire team. Assists others to work collaboratively valuing the contributions of the various disciplines in patient/practice issues. Is an active member on point-of-care or divisional councils, committees, task forces or projects by contributing to decision making. Supports divisional leadership initiatives Acts as a chair of divisional or point of care councils, committees or task forces. Recognizes lateral violence and bullying among respiratory therapists or between healthcare professionals is inappropriate in the workplace and will not contribute to its presence and will work to prevent it in the workplace.

To function as a professional respiratory therapist and able to apply theoretical knowledge to the care of infant child, adolescent and adult patients and clients. To demonstrate competence in Respiratory Care skills, problem solving, critical thinking and prioritization. To recognize the need for professional growth and to take appropriate steps towards meeting educational needs

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • RT License, Registered RT
