Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; some evenings & weekends as needed for program activities

Job Summary: The Rural Scholars Program Coordinator provides support for the daily operations of various high school and college Rural Scholars Programs. Develops, implements, and evaluate programs through the continuum of the health professional education pipeline, including oversight of budgetary matters. Assists with program activities within the academic and community setting. Coordinates program recruitment activities throughout Alabama.

Additional Department Summary: Works with health professions advisors at the campus of The University of Alabama and colleges and universities across the state and southeast to recruit rural students into CCHS Rural Scholars programs, including Rural Medical Scholars Program (RMSP), Rural Community Health Masters Program, and Tuscaloosa Rural Premedical Internship (TRPI).

Coordinates and organizes program activities for undergraduate students who are interested in becoming rural physicians and/or dentists and who meet the qualification standards for program participation. Arranges shadowing opportunities for program participants. Coordinates facilitators and field trips for students. Interacts with current and future program participants, parents, and advisors. Travels to state and regional colleges and universities to recruit program participants. Creates, organizes, and maintains a database of students for recruitment purposes. Serves as liaison to internal and external partners, including collaboration with HRC and Admissions to coordinate housing and meals for program participants as needed. Manages programs budget and maintains accurate records. Coordinates development and distribution of program promotional materials.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or Education and two (2) years of experience in a medical, dental, or healthcare education program; OR Master's degree in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or Education and some experience in a medical, dental, or healthcare education program. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student-oriented experience will be considered. To be considered, student experience must be detailed in the employment section on the application.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office and basic database programs. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skill in organizing work to achieve department goals and objectives. Excellent public relations, customer service, and telephone etiquette skills. Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Ability to work on multiple, ongoing projects, prioritize tasks, and meet stated deadlines. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and/or experience with UA rural programs or rural Alabama preferred. Previous experience recruiting and advising high school students preferred.
