Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a Scientist II who is highly motivated and ambitious to join our exceptional research team in Maryland. Responsibilities:

  • Support Key Driver Identification (KDI) peptone/hydrolysate project teams
  • Create and use batch records to formulate powder and liquid pilot material
  • Create and complete study plans to assess physical and biological performance of media and peptones
  • Handle inventories of chemicals and other supplies
  • Ensure pilot equipment and rooms are well-maintained
  • Conduct experiments, analyze data, and suggest next experimental steps to the technical project leader
  • Write technical reports and present data to project stakeholders
  • Identify areas for improvement and innovation for the KDI and Media Format programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement new methodologies and technologies
Requirements (Must have):
  • Bachelor's degree (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology/Biomedical engineering, or other related field) with 3 plus years of experience in a manufacturing/lab environment, or a Master's degree with relevant laboratory/practical work.
  • Knowledge and experience with cell culture media, including an understanding of the chemical principles associated with complex formulations
  • Experience with hands-on weighing and production of powder and liquid formulations
  • Experience with statistical analysis, including relevant statistical software packages
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, including the ability to lead others in a lab environment
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced research environment and deliver detailed results
Requirements (Nice to have):
  • Knowledge and experience working with peptones
  • Knowledge and experience with small scale cell culture techniques
  • Experience using DOE or other advanced experimental design strategies
  • Experience in a powder or liquid media manufacturing environment
  • Experience with customer engagement on technical projects
