Position Overview:
The Sr. Manager, Engineering and Technology, is responsible for overseeing the Corporate Discipline Engineering Managers (referred to as "Team" in the remainder of the description) specializing in Instrumentation, Analytical, OT Cybersecurity, Electrical, and Safety Instrumented Systems. Additionally, the Sr. Manager leads the Corporate Design and Engineering Tools Team, which supports and administers SmartPlant software tools and the company's Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). This position is key to advancing innovation and technology at Motiva and reports to the Director of Digitalization and Technical Excellence. The Sr. Manager will play a critical role in delivering Strategy, Governance, Technology, and Assurance across Motiva's operating assets.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the execution of the Digitalization and Technical Excellence department's mission and purpose.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and career development for senior-level Discipline Engineers, including goal-setting and performance reviews.
- Lead the team to develop strategies that enhance reliability and performance across all discipline areas.
- Manage technical support provided to Strategy & Business Development, Capital Projects, and Operations teams.
- Oversee the creation, updates, and management of Motiva's Engineering and Operations Standards for areas of responsibility.
- Ensure the team contributes effectively to the Asset Integrity Management system for their respective disciplines.
- Oversee the maintenance and support of Engineering/Design tools (e.g., Hexagon SmartPlant) and EDMS.
- Participate in and support Assurance activities related to Engineering and Operations Standards.
- Champion the use of new technologies to improve reliability, safety, operations, and profitability.
- Collaborate with Operations leadership to address short-term and long-term asset integrity, reliability, and process safety challenges.
- Stay updated on industry trends, incident learnings, and technological advancements that could benefit Motiva.
- Lead initiatives to improve safety, reliability, profitability, and integrity of operational assets.
- Collaborate with Saudi Aramco, leveraging best practices and lessons learned.
- Manage requests for information and benchmarking from Saudi Aramco and its affiliates.
- Support the team's participation in M&A due diligence activities, providing critical technical expertise.
- Provide regular technical updates to the Executive Leadership Team.
- Assist in the development and management of the department's annual budget.
- Limited domestic and international travel required.
Experience and Qualifications:Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related field).
- 15+ years of experience in the refining and/or chemicals industry.
- At least five (5) years of leadership experience managing engineering professionals.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to influence senior management on recommendations and investment decisions.
- Proven experience working in an operating plant environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
- Adaptable, with the capability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic setting.
- General knowledge of Instrumentation, Control Systems, Safety Systems, and Electrical Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- 25+ years of experience in the refining and/or chemicals industry.
- 10+ years of experience working at an operating facility.
- Advanced knowledge of Instrumentation, Control Systems, Safety Systems, and Electrical Systems.
- Experience as a Project Engineer or Discipline Engineer in capital projects.
- Contributions to the development of Engineering and/or Operations Standards.
- In-depth knowledge of industry best practices and standards relevant to areas of responsibility.
