Social Science Research Professional II (1 Year Fixed-Term)🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States📁Research📅Oct 07, 2024 Post Date📅104854 Requisition #The work of the Division of Oncology bridges the worlds of basic science, clinical diagnosis and the treatment of cancer. Our basic investigative activities concentrate on immunology, genetics/genomics, pharmacology, DNA repair and oncogene action. Our clinical science covers each cancer type; has a strong focus in clinical trials of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and in correlative laboratory studies. Our work is supported by a portfolio of peer-reviewed grants, industrial agreements and research endowments. The Patel Lab, located within the Division of Oncology, is looking for a full-time Social Science Research Professional II (SSRP II) to provide research support on health services and clinical research projects using mixed-methods community-based participatory research approaches. Work is primarily in the areas of equitable access to cancer care, upstream factors impacting cancer burden, and care across the continuum, including advanced care planning. The SSRP II will be engaged in project coordination, IRB protocol preparation and updating, assist with progress reports, participate in leading interviews and surveys by phone and in person, tracking and disbursing human subjects' incentives, and other research and administrative tasks as needed. This is a one year fixed-term position.Duties include:

Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high-level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental protocols.Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with the supervisor providing general guidance and suggestions.Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques.Solve problems and make decisions that affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project.Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independently to compile data or process documents; often serve as a resource for research methods and numerical analyses.Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in health services research, health communications, public health, social work, or other related field strongly preferred.Spanish language fluency (able to read, write, and interpret) highly desired.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, time-management skills, and the ability to pay attention to detail.Knowledge of Canva for developing presentations, handouts and other public-facing materials also a plus.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be exposed to blood borne pathogens.May be required to work non-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work.

The expected pay range for this position is $81,130 to $94,895 per annum.
