The Senior EI&C Technician functions are primarily to perform maintenance on all power generation electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment. The Senior EI&C Technician may cross train in basic operations and mechanical maintenance. A Senior EI&C Technician is a leadership role and will manage projects and outages including qualifying and managing contractors. As with all KE employees, the Senior EI&C Technician should continuously strive to better themselves as well as the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate with other team members.
  • Perform all duties of a PTE.
  • Possess a high level of knowledge of plant electrical, instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems.
  • Actively participate in the training of team members.
  • Work with other Plant Technicians to evaluate and prioritize plant conditions; and act to control, contain, troubleshoot, repair, and restore plant operations in a safe, appropriate, and environmentally compliant manner.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, inspection, cleaning, calibration, and testing of plant equipment as required.
  • Assess plant conditions and call in management or other resources, within management established guidelines, for assistance or support as needed.
  • Coordinate and provide safety clearance tag-outs as required.
  • Monitor and interpret plant emissions and discharges; and act to maintain compliance with all applicable laws, permits, provisions, and orders.
  • Order materials and services (bulk, specialty, and routine) in support of normal and emergency (upset) conditions of the plant.
  • Use and contribute to plant computerized programs.
  • Train Plant Technicians in development towards Senior Plant Technician status.
  • Perform administrative and supervisory duties in support of various plant goals such as: environmental reporting, purchasing, quality programs, heat rate improvement, continuous improvement, material history programs, maintenance management, safety and environmental compliance training.
  • Participate in supervisory, individual, or team roles to solve routine or non-routine issues.
  • Analyze individual performance and provide guidance and / or feedback.
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the merchant power business, and utilize that knowledge in decision-making, suggesting changes, or improvements to the overall plant operation.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Develop individual skills through training, technical manuals, and other means to be able to act as "system expert" in one or more technical areas for the purpose of installation, maintenance, testing, tuning, training, and warranty situations.
  • Coordinate and support vendor activity as required.
  • Read, comprehend, and abide by all Environmental, Health, & Safety documents, programs, and procedures.
  • Supervise and direct contractors on outage and non-outage work.
  • Demonstrate that you have met the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.269, qualified electrical worker.
  • Plan and manage to completion all preventive and corrective electrical maintenance at the facilities.
  • Responsible for all NERC maintenance and testing, high voltage testing and protective relay testing.
  • Responsible for some aspects of scheduled and unscheduled outages including parts, materials, labor, contractors, planning/scheduling, logistics and testing.
  • Coordinate and manage outside contractors and OEMs to minimize costs and optimize plant availability and reliability.
  • Participate in the call-out schedule to meet the needs of the business.
  • Read, comprehend, and utilize drawings and technical manuals.
  • Successfully complete a respiratory evaluation and fit test.
  • Successfully complete first aid and CPR training.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 6 years of Electrical/Instrumentation/Controls experience and / or training in power plant operations including associated auxiliary and support equipment. (combustion turbine experience is preferred)
  • Possess significant knowledge and experience troubleshooting, configuring and tuning control systems including DCIS's, PLC's and SCADA.
  • Detailed knowledge of NERC/CIP standard and subject matter expert (SME) in various areas.
  • Working knowledge and experience with arc flash.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of management, operations, and technical personnel in and easy to understand yet precise format.
  • Ability to respond on an on-call basis and travel to remote locations as required. Travel approximately < 5%.
  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting faults in BOP Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specific experience with the following platforms:
    • ABB Bailey S+
    • Siemens T3000
    • SAP
    • MP2, PI and Black & Veatch plant nomenclature
