Staff Chaplain- Per Diem

Per Diem. Schedule includes weekly facilitation of Sunday Service group on the inpatient psychiatric unit as well as ad hoc facilitation of other groups on the psychiatric unit as well as the addiction recovery program.

The Staff Chaplain works under the direction of the Spiritual Care Manager to deliver Spiritual Care Services at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. The chaplain provides comprehensive emotional, spiritual, and religious support for patients, families, and staff of all faith traditions, those with various beliefs, and those with no religious or spiritual affiliation. Patient Facing Services

• Visits patients and families referred to spiritual care during their hospital stay to offer care.

• Provides and/or arranges for effective and appropriate spiritual care services, spiritual guidance, and support to meet the needs of patients and their families.

• Provides timely and appropriate documentation of all visits in the Electronic Medical Record.

• Manages referrals for Spiritual Care requests in the Electronic Medical Record.

• Initiates referrals to outside clergy for patients when appropriate.

• May facilitate weekly groups on the inpatient psychiatric unit and/or addiction recovery program and provide ad hoc coverage of groups when requested

• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support ethics consultations, palliative care, goals of care, family meetings, interdisciplinary rounds, and other discussions.

• Collaborates on in-service programs for staff to support staff in delivering culturally competent care to patients.

• Follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties in order to ensure a safe environment.

• Respects the confidentiality of information from all sources, including patient, medical record, other team members, and family members in accordance with federal and state laws and the policies of the hospital.

• Practices evidence-based care including ongoing evaluation of new practices and education to enhance skills.

• May share on-call responsibilities to meet emergent needs during off hours, weekends, and holidays.

• Participates in departmental staff meetings, retreats, special committees, and teamwork throughout the hospital by assisting/leading organizational events.

• Supports staff with Tea for the Soul, Blessing of the Hands, and other staff wellness initiatives when requested.

• Represents Spiritual Care on hospital committees as needed.

• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required in related field.

• Master's degree from an accredited theological school required.

• At least four (4) units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) required.

• Board Certification, or in the process of certification, as a chaplain through Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) preferred.

• Certification from APC, NACC, or NAJC or eligible for certification.

• Ecclesiastical Endorsement as appropriate.

• Required: relevant experience in providing care in a hospital setting through CPE, staff chaplaincy or other work experience.

• Preferred: previous staff chaplaincy experience in a hospital setting and at least four (4) units CPE.

• Ability to represent Spiritual Care as a professional.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with multicultural individuals in crisis.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Knowledge and understanding of multi faith traditions and customs.

• Ability to continuously respect and value diversity.

• High level of sensitivity to confidential information.

• Experience working in a health care setting and providing end of life care.

• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (senior management and physician leadership to front-line staff)

• Superior organizational skills.

• Ability to function independently and effectively in a changing environment, develop timelines and meet deadlines, prioritize multiple projects, and manage time effectively.

• Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other file sharing platforms.

• Adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards.

• Has working knowledge of relevant hospital statutes and regulatory requirements.
