POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Natural Areas Management Aid
STATUS: Part time
DEPARTMENT: Natural Sciences and Physical Education (NSPE)
DIVISION: Student Development
REPORTS TO: Cheryl Heeneman, NSPE Department Chair
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
(Position is FWS Eligible)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend all NA Committee Meetings.
2. Help with monthly meeting management, for example: room reservations, sending out invites, etc.
3. Record and write up minutes for the NA committee meetings, post to Microsoft Teams site.
4. Create flyers for semester ecological restoration workdays.
5. Attend and help with the logistics of ecological restoration workdays.
6. Maintain trail map availability within the JJC Natural Areas.
7. Walk the natural trail areas weekly. Collect data on various management aspects, including but not limited to: Damage to Old Oaks (by beaver, etc.), invasive species, algal cover on lake, lake water chemistry, bird box activity, reptile population survey.
8. Help generate semester NA monitoring reports.
9. Maintain a social media presence to promote the JJC natural areas.
10. Meet with Natural Areas Committee Chair biweekly.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. GPA of 2.0 or above.
2. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.
3. Some familiarity with college-level Ecology/Environmental Biology.
3. Must be able to work well with others.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Interest in Biology/Environmental Biology
2. Highly Organized
3. Experience with social media platforms.
4. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
