Position Summary:

UNC's Center for Health Equity Research seeks up to three Study Nurses for Co-LEARN, a study that seeks to improve heart health among Black and African American residents of rural, Eastern North Carolina.

The position of Study Nurse will each lead biometric data collection at up to fifteen data collection sessions total: five in January/February 2025, five in July/August 2025, and five in December 2025 / January 2026. Preference will be given to candidates who anticipate being able to remain with the study through January 2026. We anticipate a particular need for evening and weekend availability. Each data collection session will last approximately 9.5 hours, during which Study Nurses will adhere to research protocols for measuring and accurately recording participants' cholesterol and triglycerides (including collecting blood samples via fingerstick and running them through the study's Cholestech LDX analyzer), A1C (including collecting blood samples via fingerstick and running them through the study's A1CNow+ test kits), blood pressure, height, weight, and waist circumference.

This position requires a high level of autonomy. In the event that a participant is injured during data collection, the Study Nurse will be responsible for attending the injury, documenting and alerting the study coordinator of the adverse event, and in extreme cases contacting emergency services.

Participant safety is paramount to any research endeavor. In order to ensure participant safety, Co-LEARN's grant stipulates that biometric data will be collected by Registered Nurses. As such, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and an active North Carolina nursing license are required for this position.

Study Nurses must be able to commute to data collection sessions, which will take place in rural, eastern North Carolina. Most data collection locations will be 1-to-1.5 hours away from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Study Nurses will be joined during data collection by a passionate team comprised of professionals with expertise in community health, public health, and academic research; these team members will manage participant check-in, informed consent, survey administration, and participant payments.

This is an exceptional opportunity for nurses interested in research, rural health, health equity, or primary care.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Current North Carolina nursing license
* Prior experience conducting finger sticks and measuring blood pressure
* Able to commute to data collection sessions in Eastern North Carolina (Edgecombe, Franklin, Nash, Vance, and Warren counties); transportation/mileage will not be provided.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Nursing
* Prior research experience
* Prior clinical experience
* Prior experience working in rural communities
* Prior experience analyzing blood samples for cholesterol and A1C

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

Not Applicable.
