Job Summary:
The Surgical First Assist provides direct assistance to the surgeon during surgical procedures, helping to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role involves a combination of technical skills, knowledge of surgical procedures, and effective communication with the surgical team.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist During Surgery:
- Provide hands-on assistance to the surgeon, including retraction, suction, and hemostasis.
- Handle surgical instruments and materials, and ensure their availability and sterility.
- Manage and position the patient on the operating table as required.
- Participate in suturing, stapling, and closing incisions.

Prepare for Surgery:
- Assist in the setup and preparation of the operating room, including arranging surgical instruments and equipment.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure as part of preoperative checks.
- Ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are sterile and ready for use.

Patient Care:
- Monitor patient's vital signs and overall condition during surgery.
- Assist with the administration of medications and anesthetics as directed by the surgeon and anesthesiologist.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the surgeon, surgical nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Communicate effectively to provide updates on the patient's status and any concerns that arise during the procedure.

Postoperative Duties:
- Assist with the transfer of the patient to the recovery room.
- Help in documenting the procedure and any relevant observations.
- Participate in postoperative care and follow-up as needed.

Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols, infection control procedures, and hospital policies.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of surgical waste and hazardous materials.
- Maintain certification and stay current with best practices in surgical assistance.
Minimum Qualifications: * Associate Degree in Surgical Technology and Graduate from a Surgical First Assistant
program. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
* Three years of current operating room scrub and/or assisting experience within the last 5
years.
Licensure: * Certified Surgical Technologist and Certified First Assistant required.
* Current CPR/BLS Certification required
