Surgical Technology Faculty and Program Coordinator
POSITION: Full-Time Surgical Technology Faculty and Program Coordinator (Assistant Professor): Department of Surgical Technology, Division of Health Professions; Tenure Track; Lawrence Campus; (414 Common Street); 37.5 hours per week; MCCC/MTA Unit Faculty Position; Grant Funded Position (Grant funded until June 30, 2025, renewal contingent upon grant agency's continued support)

SUMMARY: The Program Coordinator for the Surgical Technology program is a full-time position that serves the students of the Merrimack Valley. Under the direction of the Dean, Division of Health Professions, the Program Coordinator for Surgical Technology will play a key role in the creation and launch of the Surgical Technology degree program. This position will be responsible for developing a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with industry standards and prepares students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed in the field. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will oversee the accreditation process, working closely with accrediting bodies to ensure that the program meets all necessary requirements. This position involves overseeing the day-to-day operations and long-term success of the program, managing faculty, developing and refining the curriculum, and ensuring the program adheres to accreditation standards. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will develop and maintain strong relationships with industry partners and advisory boards to ensure the program stays aligned with current surgical practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop curriculum for a new Surgical Technology program aligning with industry standards and certification requirements. This includes adhering to guidelines from accrediting bodies like CAAHEP and ARC/STSA while preparing students for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam.
  • Ensuring the program meets all National certification standards and requirements set forth by relevant accrediting bodies.
  • Planning, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all instruction and related program management activities for the Surgical Technology program.
  • Serving as a full-time faculty member, teaching surgical technology courses in addition to administrative duties.
  • Overseeing the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of adjunct faculty and clinical instructors.
  • Managing program resources, including budgets, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintaining relationships with clinical affiliates and coordinating student clinical rotations.
  • Advising and mentoring students in the Surgical Technology program.
  • Participating in program marketing, student recruitment, and community outreach efforts.
  • Ensuring compliance with institutional policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards related to the program.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Dean of Health Professions


Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a college that has an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency
  • A minimum total of five (5) years of work experience as a surgical technologist or surgical technologist instructor, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
  • A current CST or CSTFA credential.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA)
  • Experience as an educator (instructor, staff developer, trainer, preceptor, etc.) and proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
  • Management experience in either an academic post-secondary institution or industry setting, including employee supervision.
  • Satisfy clinical agency requirements (i.e., background checks, immunizations, CPR, etc.)
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team-teaching environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree or higher from in an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education
  • Certified Surgical Technologist credentialed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.

Additional Information:
SALARY: Anticipated starting salary range is $52,116.00 - $62,016.00 (Rank of Assistant Professor with a bachelor's degree) per academic year with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
