Position Title: VP, Design Engineering & Construction

Your role
In an increasingly competitive marketplace, ensuring Digital Realty's core product, Data Centre Services, is optimized to our target customers' requirements in a cost-effective way is key to delivering competitive advantage and ensuring sufficient return on investment. The VP of Design Engineering & Construction will lead and set the strategic vision for all elements of design and construction of data centers in the North American region with strong emphasis on consistent delivery optimized for strong returns. You will lead and empower your team to optimize time to deliver, ensuring the design and construction processes of Digital Realty's North America data centers are industry-leading in speed of delivery, cost-efficiency, repeatability, predictability, and quality. You'll represent the North America Leadership Team in forming and executing the region's growth strategy while actively participating in shaping and driving Global strategy
What you'll do
- Lead, develop, and motivate the North America Design and Construction (D&C) team to focus on strategic development of all aspects of the data center design and construction, with particular focus on optimizing speed of delivery, cost efficiency, repeatability, predictability, and quality.
- Align with global plan to execute the strategy and delivery of the full data center D&C lifecycle: from the design, production, scheduling, and construction, to delivery of data center campuses.
- Partner with the Global Team to support R&D capabilities that position Digital Realty ahead of our competitors and create the next generation of data center signs to improve delivery schedule intervals at the right costs for each product.
- Manage and oversee the overall North America regional design and construction projects while incorporating Global processes and best practices.
- Lead the delivery and commissioning of new data centers in the region.
- Initiate and maintain a historical construction cost database to support costing for business cases and track alignment with delivery speed and underlying costs.
- Provide strong cross-function support via collaboration with the Portfolio Management and Acquisition teams to support due diligence for future expansion plans.
- Execute new design innovations in alignment with the Global Team that will optimize cost engineering, energy efficiency, and quality of data centers.
- Manage to scope of design; exhibit strong accountability and ownership in consistently delivering on time and within budget plans.
- Support the Managing Director North America in the development, refinement, and execution of go-to-market strategies that will contribute to the regional growth trajectory.
- Maintain a coherent governance process and program methodology.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the capital budget development for all construction-related work.
What you'll need - A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering, Construction & Development, or related field
- 10 years of proven work experience in design and/or construction or related fields with strong people management experience.
- Proven track record of managing design to deliver cost savings/avoidance and driving revenue growth.
- Solid track record of strategic accomplishments in companies experiencing rapid growth and expansion amidst challenges.
- Experience in building teams to scale rapidly in a dynamic technology and customer-focused environment.
- Extremely collaborative leader with ability to be flexible and creative.
- Strong executive presence and sense of urgency.
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills; systematic thinker.
- Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and facilitation skills. Ability to effectively communicate and interact across diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with teams in a fast-moving and dynamic business environment
